State highway officials will unveil the design for a new U.S. 280 bridge over the Norfolk Southern Railroad in Childersburg in a hearing tonight from 4 to 6 p.m. at the R.S. Limbaugh Community Center.

Steve Haynes, Alabama Department of Transportation assistant division engineer for preconstruction, said the meeting will show the new bridge design, sequence of construction, right-of-way needed and how traffic will be handled during construction.

“We have a large layout of the project available for people see at the meeting,” he said. “ALDOT representatives will be on hand to answer questions anyone might have.”

Haynes said the project is expected to be let for bid next year. Construction is expected to take about a year and a half.
