Motorists on Alabama 21 between Talladega and Munford may have been able to get a little bonus Thursday evening, in the form of cash scattered along the road.
According to Talladega Police Capt. Leon Thomas, a 50-year-old man was carrying approximately $4,000 in cash and a handgun in a bag attached to a walker in the bed of a pickup truck. Sometime between 4:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m., the bag appears to have come lose and scattered cash all over the side of the road.
The bag and the gun were recovered fairly quickly, Thomas said, but most of the cash was not. Altogether, police were able to gather up a $100 bill, a $5 bill and three of the bands used to hold rolls of bills together.
Thomas added that the victim said at first that he did not want to file a police report because he knew he would not be getting any of his money back.
In addition to Talladega Police and Talladega County Sheriff’s Office, officers from the Lincoln and Anniston police departments also responded.
