A former manager of the Wendy’s location in Talladega has been arrested on felony theft charges.

Roy K. Maple, 32, was charged with third-degree theft of property Friday. His initial court appearance was before Talladega County District Judge Jeb Fannin, who set bond at $5,000.

According to Talladega Police Detective Lt. Jimmy Thompson, Maple is charged with stealing between $800 and $1,200 from the cash register between March and July of this year. He had been promoted to store manager several months before the thefts were discovered.

The next step for Maple will be a preliminary hearing in District Court, where a judge will determine if there is sufficient evidence for the case to be bound over to a grand jury.

If the grand jury indicts him for theft of property in the second degree or another felony charge, the case would then proceed to trial by a jury in Circuit Court.

Theft of property in the second degree is a Class C felony in Alabama, punishable upon conviction by one year and one day to 10 years in prison.
