A Wilsonville man has been arrested on two counts of burglary in the third degree for breaking into Midway Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, according to Talladega Police Capt. Leon Thomas.

Jerry William Duke, 32, was arrested Friday morning, Thomas said. Bond was set at $5,000 each of the burglary counts by District Judge Jeb Fannin, but a hold was placed on him for probation violation and he was not allowed to bond out.

Thomas said that Duke was a Talladega native who had been employee of the victim at one time.

The first break-in into the funeral home office was sometime between Aug. 13 and Aug. 14, but was not reported to police until Aug. 19, Thomas said. A cash box and contents valued at about $1,500 was stolen. Duke apparently came back for more Thursday night, and was caught on video.

It was not immediately clear what Duke was on probation for.

Burglary in the third degree is a class C felony in Alabama, punishable upon conviction by one year and one day to 10 years in prison.
