Deputies arrested a Talladega man Wednesday morning for failing to register as a sex offender, according to Talladega County Sheriff’s Department investigator Barry Kimsey.

John Wallace Wilson, 57, was convicted of rape in the second degree of an 11-year-old female in 1989.

According to the Alabama Department of Public Safety, the agency responsible for compiling sex the state’s sex offender registry, Wilson was released from prison Sept. 13, 2004, and registered as living on Beasley Lane beginning in 2006.

The address was last verified April 5, 2011.

Wilson was transported to the Talladega County Jail.

Talladega County District Judge Jeb Fannin set Wilson’s bond at $10,000.

Failure to register as a sex offender is a Class C felony in Alabama and carries a sentence of one year and one day to 10 years in prison upon conviction.
