NorthStar EMS has been accredited by the Commission on the Accreditation of Ambulance Services, according to a press release.

The accreditation is the result of “having gone through a rigorous application process and an on-site review by CAAS,” the release states. “This accomplishment makes NorthStar EMS the only ambulance service in the state of Alabama to have both a CAAS accreditation as well as an Accredited Center of Excellence by the International Academies of Emergency Medical Dispatch. Only 26 other EMS agencies in the world can share this distinction.”

NorthStar president Tony Smelley said, “To have a third party review and validate that our company’s business and clinical practices meet the National EMS Gold Standards that have been defined by CAAS is a true testament to the dedication of our EMS professionals.”

The accreditation process was completed with no deficiencies, according to the release. “There are over 19,000 EMS agencies across the United States. Just over 160 of those are CAAS accredited. NEMS can now be counted in this elite class of EMS who have made the commitment to become a leader in EMS."
