The members of Talladega’s Evening Star Missionary Baptist Church on Starlight Lane will hold their annual Youth Day Program Sunday, June 8, starting at 11 a.m. at the church, located on Starlight Lane.
The Rev. Hardy Reynolds Jr. is pastor of Evening Star. He has led that congregation for the past six years.
According to church member Olivia Taylor, the youth day program is a tradition at the church dating back more than a decade.
“I don’t know for sure how long we’ve been having it, but it’s at least 10 years now,” she said, adding later that there has been a youth day in each of the 34 years since the church was first founded.
This year’s guest speaker will be the Rev. Billy Joe Duncan, associate pastor of Greater Ebenezer Baptist Church in Talladega, Taylor said.
Following Duncan’s remarks, there will be singing with members of the church, and refreshments will be served after that, she said.
The theme of this year’s program is “Children, obey your parents.” Specifically, the theme is from the letter to the Ephesians, 6:1, “Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right.” This scriptural admonition is also found in Exodus 20:12, and Colossians 3:20, among numerous other passages in the Bible.
Evening Star Missionary Baptist Church is located at 390 Starlight Lane, off Allison Mill Road.
