Steve Marlowe, center, president of the Sylacauga Rotary Club, presented a check to B. B. Comer Memorial Library in Sylacauga to assist with the services that the library provides to the area. Shown with Marlowe are Donna Dickey, left, trustee for Comer Library; and Elaine Liveoak, youth services director. In 1936, the fledgling young Sylacauga Rotary Club led 23 other organizations in the formation of the Sylacauga Public Library. Since that time, the club has provided moral and financial support to the library while witnessing the growth of the library from being housed in one room in the back of a downtown bank to the present spacious facility that houses a huge variety of services for young and old alike. In 1939, the name of the library was changed to honor the family of former Alabama Gov. Braxton Bragg Comer.
The Rotary Club had lunch at the library and heard Youth Services Director, Elaine Liveoak, tell about the role that the Comer Library plays in the growth and stability of the greater Sylacauga Community.
