TALLADEGA -- Police responded to a two-vehicle accident on Jackson Trace Road Monday morning that caused the death of one of the drivers involved.

According to Captain Leon Thomas, Ernestine Dubovy Johnston, 86, of Stemley Road in Lincoln, was airlifted by LifeSaver helicopter to University of Alabama Birmingham Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

The second driver, Jade Alexis Dalton, 19, a Talladega resident and Auburn University student, was transported to the emergency room of Citizens Baptist Medical Center in Talladega with relatively minor injuries.

Thomas said that, based on witness statements, the 2011 Nissan Versa driven by Johnston pulled out and was hit broadside the 2014 Lexus IS250 driven by Dalton. The wreck happened on Jackson Trace Road just past the intersection with the 275 Bypass.

Both vehicles were totaled.

Talladega firefighters and NorthStar paramedics also responded to the accident.

The accident remained under investigation by the Talladega Police Department Monday afternoon.
