Alabama Institute for Deaf and Blind Regional Centers are required to retain a copy of education records for 5 years after the termination of the Special Education Program for which the records were used.  The centers have scheduled the destruction of records of students born in 2004 or 2005 who were enrolled in any one of the eight regional centers.

The mandated 5 years has expired, and the centers are in the process of locating parents of the former students who may choose to receive copies. Deadline for requesting the record is Aug. 1.

If no one comes forward to claim the records by that date, they will be destroyed in a manner that maintains confidentiality.
