The Talladega City Board of Education spent about 45 minutes in closed session Thursday night in order to discuss the good name and character of an individual.

The motion for the executive session was made by Shirley Simmons-Sims and seconded by Elizabeth Smith. Board chairwoman Juanita Curry McClellan said initially that she expected the session to last for about 20 minutes. Superintendent Doug Campbell stayed in the room with the board.

No direct action was taken when the board reconvened.

Just before the meeting adjourned, Curry McClellan thanked the people in the audience, especially those who returned after the executive session.

“I know sometimes people wish we would move at a faster pace, but we have serious work to be done, and the goal of finding the best superintendent for our system is still our goal.”

When asked whether or not the board was still considering appointing an interim superintendent after Campbell retires July 1, McClellan said “we are not all the way there yet,” regarding a decision.

The board recently junked a set of applications for superintendent that stemmed from a nationwide search conducted by the Alabama Association of School Boards. Board members are in the process of advertising for and conducting a superintendent search on their own.

Also during Thursday’s meeting, the board:

• Transferred LaKesha Curry from fourth grade teacher at Houston Elementary School to fifth grade teacher at Salter Elementary School, and Misty Gallman from fifth grade teacher at Salter to special education teacher at Salter.

• Accepted the resignation of Brian K. Stovall, health and physical education teacher and football and baseball coach at Talladega High School.

• Accepted the retirement of physical education instructional assistant Suzanne McRae at Talladega High School.
