Editor, The Daily Home:
The 38th year of Sunshine Saturday in Talladega has come and gone. What a wonderful event it was. Another successful Sunshine Saturday was made possible because of the spirit of generosity and caring that exists in the Talladega community. The Daily Home was very generous in giving us publicity.
When the city of Talladega told us that we would be unable to use the park due to renovations, we didn’t know what we would do. We have had the event at Veterans Park of 37 years. A committee was appointed to seek a new location. Chairperson for the committee was Jon Cullimore of Coosa Valley Electric Cooperative. He got right to work and secured the location at Talladega Regional Community Center. We especially want to thank the Mt. Canaan Baptist Church for allowing us to use their beautiful piece of property. It was great.
May we take this opportunity to express our appreciation to all who helped. Volunteerism at its best was evident all day in the park and in the days and weeks preceding the event. With all this help, we would not be able to get through this event without the help of Alabama Teen Challenge. We thank you all so much.
Twelve years ago the Arc began a “Go Casual” Day for Sunshine Saturday. It is always the Friday before Sunshine Saturday. This year we sold 850 shirts and could have sold more. We want to thank our sponsors on the shirt and all of you who bought one.
It is a humbling experience to see the tremendous support that is received from businesses, clubs, agencies, educational institutions and private citizens. We thank you all for giving of yourselves and your resources on behalf of persons with intellectual disabilities. All of our receipts will go toward serving these persons.
The people of Talladega are the greatest. Thank you all.
