Talladega Housing Authority voted Tuesday to donate two vans to the local Boys and Girls Club.

Executive Director Nettie Goodwin said the vans were declared surplus by the board, and had already been replaced by newer models.

At one time, there had been some controversy regarding whether or not the housing authority could purchase a new van for the Boys and Girls Club. While it was eventually determined that the authority could not buy a new van, there was no reason it could not donate an old one, Goodwin explained.

Also Tuesday, the authority discussed a fraud class recently offered by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development in Birmingham.
