The Lincoln City Council announced the Ward 4 seat vacant at Tuesday’s council meeting.

The seat was formerly held by H.H. “Kurt” Kuykendall Jr., who died July 7.

Kuykendall served on the City Council for 22 years, from 1988-1992 and from 1996 until his death. Lincoln Mayor Bud Kitchin said Kuykendall was noted for his knowledge of council meeting procedure and took pride in serving as parliamentarian.

Lincoln Councilman Billy Pearson said he and Kuykendall loved to share thoughts and ideas, and come up with ways to improve the city.

Lincoln Councilwoman Sadie Britt, who served with Kuykendall for 18 years, said he was a valuable friend and will be missed.

Kitchin said the City Council has 60 days to appoint someone to fill the council seat or the governor will make the appointment. He said any Ward 4 resident interested in serving on the council should contact him at 205-763-4000 by 5 p.m. Monday, July 15.

In other matters Tuesday, the council:

O Approved covenants for the industrial park.

O Appointed Jon Cullimore to the board of the Public Park Authority of the Cities of Lincoln and Talladega (TOP Trails board).

O Announced mayoral appointments to the Lincoln Planning and Zoning Commission of Keith Yarbrough (expiration Feb. 29, 2016) and Kris Hanes (expiration May 28, 2019).
