The Springville Tigers put together back-to-back wins for the first time since opening the season 2-0 as they beat St. Clair County High and Mortimer Jordan. They are now 5-5 on the season.Springville 68, SCCHS 59
The Tigers led 20-8 after the first quarter and held on to beat SCCHS 68-59 to improve to 4-5 on the season. By halftime, Springville’s lead was 34-18.
The Saints outscored Springville 41-34 in the second half, but the first quarter deficit was too large to overcome.
Zak McLaughlin pumped in 19 points, blocked seven shots and grabbed six rebounds to lead the Tigers. Cayce Lindsey and Sam Tremble netted nine points each, while Eben Leeman, Gino Baker and Daniel Holland all chipped in eight points each. Jonathan Abts scored six points, while Weston Reaves totaled two points.
Springville 72, Mortimer Jordan 35
It was all Tigers as they easily defeated Mortimer Jordan 72-35. After a close first period with Springville up 18-13, the Tigers outscored the Blue Devils 15-2 in the second quarter to take a 33-15 halftime lead.
The third quarter was a repeat of the second quarter as the Tigers won the scoring battle 20-9 to take a 53-24 into the fourth quarter. The final was 72-35.
Four Tiger players were in double figures, with Baker leading the way with 13 points. Leeman added 12 points, while Tremble had a double-double with 11 points and 11 assists. McLaughlin chipped in 11 points as well. Charlie Smith scored eight points, while Stephen Wilson and Holland had six points each.
Springville 54, Mortimer Jordan 41 (G)
The Lady Tigers jumped out to a 20-9 first quarter lead and never looked back as they also defeated Mortimer Jordan 54-41. Springville improved to 4-6 on the season with the win. The halftime score was 28-18, and it was 41-31 after three quarters of play.
Erica Gholson had the hot hand for Springville as she nailed four 3-pointers in the first quarter and finished the game with 16 points. Alisha Smith pumped in 15 points and pulled down nine rebounds, while Katelyn Tribble netted 12 points. Kristen Riker had five points and dished out seven assists. Shelby Woods, Brittany Jones and Nicole Beasley had two points each.
