One killed in Friday's I-59 accident

12-28-2006

A one-vehicle accident on Interstate 59 in St. Clair County Friday claimed the life of a Rainsville man.

Sgt. Tim Sartain, public information officer with the Alabama State Troopers, said Bobby Shane Reed, 31, was killed when his tractor-trailer rig ran off the roadway and overturned in the median. The accident occurred at 3:45 a.m., at the 162 mile marker, four miles south of Ashville.

Sartain said Reed was driving a 2001 Mack truck and was carrying a load of lumber. The interstate was closed for about an hour in order to remove all the lumber.

The accident is still under investigation by the Alabama State Trooper’s office.

St. Clair County Coroner Dennis Russell pronounced Reed dead at the scene at 4:45 a.m. The cause of death was head trauma.
