Tide gives McLeod permission to pursue transfer
Updated: May 27, 2014 - 3:01 pm

TUSCALOOSA — Alabama quarterback Parker McLeod has been given permission to pursue transfer options, Crimson Tide coach Nick Saban told reporters Tuesday at the SEC’s spring meetings.

Bamaonline first reported the news.

McLeod, a redshirt freshman, was a three-star prospect during the 2013 recruiting cycle. He is the fifth quarterback signed by Saban at Alabama to transfer.

Entering spring practice, McLeod was one of many quarterbacks expected to push for the chance to replace three-year starter AJ McCarron. But McLeod was ultimately lost in the shuffle. His only pass during the A-Day Game in April was intercepted.

His departure leaves Alabama with five scholarship quarterbacks: senior Blake Sims, junior Jacob Coker, redshirt sophomore Alec Morris, redshirt freshman Cooper Bateman and true freshman David Cornwell.

Saban has said the position will likely come down to Sims, Coker and Bateman. Morris spent the spring as a punter, while Cornwell was recovering from knee surgery.
