Piedmont quarterback Taylor Hayes was no stranger to finding the end zone last week.
Hayes completed 18 of 24 passes for 212 yards and threw four touchdown passes in the Bulldogs’ 48-18 victory against Pleasant Valley. The 2015 Class 3A Back of the Year continued his strong performance running the ball by rushing for 72 yards and another touchdown, giving him five touchdowns total for the night.
Hayes is the second leading rusher for the Bulldogs as he’s rushed for 514 yards and 12 touchdowns through five games. He’s also completed 46 of 75 passes for 579 yards with nine touchdowns and two interceptions.
Here are some other notable performances from local players during last week’s high school football action.
Niko Richmond, Jacksonville: Richmond rushed for 233 yards and two touchdowns in Jacksonville’s 37-14 win against Anniston.
Taye Ackles, Jacksonville: Ackles finished with 106 yards rushing and two touchdowns against Anniston.
Lee Stanley, Piedmont: Stanley rushed for 104 yards on seven carries and two touchdowns. All but 4 yards came in the first half.
T.J. Fairs, Piedmont: Fairs finished with seven catches for 74 yards and a score, while also rushing for 55 yards.
Austin Brazier, Piedmont: Brazier led Piedmont with nine tackles, one tackle for a loss and three sacks. He also had two catches for 19 yards and two touchdowns.
Austin Tucker, Ohatchee: Tucker rushed for 110 yards and a touchdown in Ohatchee’s top-10 win against Weaver. Tucker also showed off his arm by throwing a six-yard touchdown pass.
Jesse Sellers, Ohatchee: Sellers had a 75-yard interception returned for a touchdown and had a touchdown reception.
Taylor Eubanks, Ohatchee: Eubanks rushed for 97 yards on 19 carries and two touchdowns. He also had 15 tackles on defense.
Dakota Jones, Pleasant Valley: Jones had two catches for touchdowns in the Raiders’ loss to Piedmont. The first catch covered 68 yards and the second 69 yards.
Chase Smitherman, Alexandria: Smitherman had four carries for 35 yards and a 9-yard touchdown run that came on fourth down in the fourth quarter. He also had two catches for 24 yards and a 10-yard touchdown reception in the Cubs’ 24-16 loss to Etowah last week.
Tyetus Smith-Lindsey, Oxford: Smith-Lindsey had another big performance this week by rushing for 192 yards and two touchdowns in Oxford’s 44-0 win against Albertville.
Abe Peoples, Oxford: Peoples finished with 182 yards of total offense and two touchdowns.
Rodney Reddick, Saks: Reddick rushed for 176 yards on 16 carries and scored three touchdowns. He also had an interception in the Wildcats’ 39-6 win over Ashville.
Cody Ortiz, Weaver: Ortiz had three catches for 98 yards and two touchdown receptions.
Dakota Lambert, Spring Garden: Lambert finished with 193 yards on 11 carries and three touchdowns in Spring Garden’s 52-6 win against Valley Head.
Quintin Downey, Spring Garden: Downey rushed for 150 yards on 14 carries and two touchdowns.
Ben Ivey, Spring Garden: Ivey rushed for 106 yards on eight carries and two touchdowns.
Rhett Fetner, Handley: Fetner completed 13 of 19 passes for 132 yards and a touchdown. He also rushed for 19 yards on nine carries and scored another touchdown in the Tigers’ 14-7 win over Leeds.
