Alabama and Southern California have agreed to play in the 2016 Cowboys Classic, according to a Crimson Tide news release.

The matchup is scheduled for Sept. 3, which is a Saturday, at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. Television coverage, kickoff time and ticket information will be released at a later date.

The eighth annual Cowboys Classic will mark the eighth meeting between the two programs.

The two college football powers last played in the 1985 Aloha Bowl. The Crimson Tide defeated the Trojans 24-3 to take a 5-2 all-time series lead.

The 2016 game will be their first-regular season contest since the 1970s. The two battled in 1970, 1971, 1977 and 1978.

They shared a national championship in 1978. That season, Alabama finished 11-1 with its only loss coming against USC. The Trojans finished 12-1 and won the Rose Bowl.

During Nick Saban’s tenure, Alabama is 4-1 in neutral-site, regular-season games with the lone loss coming to Florida State in 2007.

Alabama will open the 2014 season against West Virginia in Atlanta. In 2015, Alabama is scheduled to face Wisconsin in Arlington.
