TUSCALOOSA -- Alabama junior running back Kenyan Drake was arrested early Saturday morning, according to the Tuscaloosa County Sheriff’s Office.

Drake was charged with one misdemeanor count of obstructing government operations.

“I’m aware of the situation with Kenyan and will handle it once I’ve had a chance to review all of the information and talk to the appropriate people,” Alabama coach Nick Saban said in a statement distributed by the school.

The sheriff's office provided details of Drake’s arrest in a news release:

“On July 5th, 2014, Tuscaloosa Police Officers were working a downtown detail when a shooting occurred at approximately 12:50 am. Officers secured the crime scene with police tape while an investigation of the shooting was being completed. While investigators were working on the crime scene Kenyan Adam Drake told officers his vehicle was parked inside the crime scene and he wanted to get his vehicle. Officers told him he would not be able to get his vehicle until the scene was released by Tuscaloosa County Homicide. Drake became upset and went through the crime scene tape and entered the crime scene after being told not to by officers. Officers immediately took the suspect into custody and charged him with Obstructing Governmental Operations. Kenyan Adam Drake, 20 years old, was charged with Obstructing Governmental Operations. He was placed in the Tuscaloosa County Jail pending a $1,000.00 Bond.”

The code of Alabama defines committing “the crime of obstructing governmental operations if, by means of intimidation, physical force or interference or by any other independently unlawful act, he: (1) Intentionally obstructs, impairs or hinders the administration of law or other governmental function; or (2) Intentionally prevents a public servant from performing a governmental function.”

In his first two seasons at Alabama, Drake rushed for 975 yards and 13 touchdowns, including 694 yards and eight touchdowns last year.

This past spring, Drake battled sophomore Derrick Henry to be the backup to starter T.J. Yeldon. Drake, a native of Powder Springs, Ga., was a four-star prospect in Alabama’s 2012 recruiting class.
