AUBURN — Scott Foxhall and Matt Heath have been named assistant baseball coaches at Auburn, announced Auburn Head Baseball Coach John Pawlowski on Tuesday. The pair join Pawlowski on the Plains after serving under him at the College of Charleston. "I am really excited about bringing Scott and Matt on board here at Auburn," Pawlowski said. "I think they will be great additions to the Auburn baseball program. They both have a tremendous amount of energy and experience, which will have an immediate impact on our program." Foxhall spent nine years as an assistant to Pawlowski at the College of Charleston where he was the recruiting coordinator and pitching coach while Heath will begin his third season as a part of Pawlowski's staff after joining him at the CoC prior to the 2007 season. Over the last five seasons, Foxhall has coached the Southern Conference Pitcher of the Year four times and has had one of the better overall pitching staffs in the league. In 2008 his staff led the conference in strikeouts (480) and saves (18) while his 2007 staff led the SoCon in strikeouts (445) and opponent batting average (.275) and was second in the league with a 4.82 ERA. Heath joined Pawlowski at College of Charleston after spending two seasons as an assistant coach at Tallahassee Community College where he worked with the catcher, infielders and hitters. The TCC team ranked in the top five in Florida both seasons in average (.322), home runs (92) and runs per game (7.7). A native of Fernandina Beach, Fla., Heath attended Fernandina Beach high School where he was named the north Florida Player of the Year. After graduation he played at Florida from 1999-00 before transferring to LSU, playing in 2001-02. At LSU, Heath was a two-time All-SEC Tournament selection, making the team as a catcher in 2001 and an outfielder a year later. In 2002, he led LSU in home runs (10) and runs (57). That season he was also selected to the NCAA Regional All-tournament Team at the Baton Rouge Regional. After playing at LSU, Heath signed a pro contract and played in the Arizona Diamondbacks organization for two seasons before completing his degree at LSU and beginning his coaching career. |
