Alabama headed for title game

BATON ROUGE, La. — A day after being all but silenced by Mississippi State, the Alabama softball team's big bats returned on Friday. The Crimson Tide used home runs from Charlotte Morgan and Whitney Larsen and a three-run seventh inning to eliminate host LSU 7-4 at Tiger Park. With the win, second-seeded Alabama (51-5) advances to meet top-seeded Florida (61-2) in today's championship game. Morgan (15-2) earned the win in the circle, allowing three runs on five hits with four strikeouts. She also hit a two-run home run in the third inning and was walked three times, including two intentional passes. Kelsi Dunne earned her fourth save of the season, pitching the final 1 1/3 innings with two strikeouts, including the final out of the sixth and seventh inning. Jordan Praytor paced the Tide's eight-hit attack, going 3-for-3 with a RBI double. Dani Woods and Larsen also had RBI for Alabama. Alabama beat MSU 1-0 on Thursday. Florida beat Tennessee 6-1 in Friday's other semifinal game. The top-ranked Gators have won 34 straight games, dating back to a loss to Alabama on March 12. Today: SEC Championship game |
