Sue gets her own postmark

Sue’s getting her own postmark. The visiting Tyrannosaurus rex will be commemorated with a pictorial postmark issued by the U.S. Postal Service, according to a press release from the Anniston Museum of Natural History. The postmark is authorized by the Anniston museum and the Postal Service, and is meant to celebrate the opening of the “A T. Rex named Sue” exhibit at the museum. The pictorial postmark features a T. Rex skull and is inscribed with the words: “A T. Rex Celebration Station, Anniston, AL 36201.” The postmark will be available on Sue’s opening day today from noon to 3 p.m. It can be obtained at the temporary Post Office in the museum lobby. Stamped envelopes with the postmark and Sue postcards will be for sale, or you can bring your own envelope to get the postmark. Those who are unable to attend the opening can get a postmark by sending a closed, stamped envelope or postcard, addressed to themselves or others, with a card of postcard thickness inserted in the envelope for sturdiness. It should be placed inside another, larger envelope that is addressed to: Pictorial Postmarks, A T. Rex Celebration Station, 1101 Quintard Ave., Anniston, AL. 36201-9998. Requests must be sent within 30 days of the pictorial postmark release. Sue will be at the Anniston Museum from today through Jan. 6.
