Auburn to play Virginia on Dec. 31 As expected, Auburn received and accepted an official invitation on Sunday to play in the Chick-fil-A Bowl in Atlanta on Dec. 31.
What wasn’t expected was a late change in opponents. The Tigers will play Virginia (8-4) instead of Virginia Tech (11-2).
Embarrassments against top teams bruise Chizik, show that Auburn coach needs to make changes Auburn stands not quite a year out from winning a Bowl Championship Series title, and the Tigers just finished a rebuilding season with a record as good as any realistic fan could expect in preseason.
So, why must Auburn’s head coach make statements like this after the regular-season finale?
No. 2 Tide, Richardson run over Tigers After punting on the game’s opening possession, and besides the AJ McCarron fumble, Alabama scored three touchdowns and kicked two field goals before calling on Cody Mandell again. Two more touchdowns in the fourth quarter only made the 42-14 win a bit more satisfying for Alabama after last season’s 28-27 disaster in Tuscaloosa.
