Local governments that banded together to seek federal housing dollars learned recently they won't have to put up their own funds to get the federal money. Anniston, along with Jacksonville, Piedmont, Weaver, Hobson City and the Calhoun County Commission, voted last year to seek the money from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development's HOME Program, which provides housing grant money to state and local governments.

Kevin Wade Jung, 43, could face a maximum sentence of life imprisonment for his conviction Wednesday in the death of Wayne Earl Ellis, 54, of West Monroe, La., in June 2003.
