U.S. Sen. Richard Shelby said Monday he hears no hint of another BRAC military base realignment like the one bringing thousands of defense jobs and a major military command to Redstone Arsenal. The Tuscaloosa Republican spoke about the Army's future in Huntsville after a breakfast appearance at the Von Braun Center before 1,200 members of the Chamber of Commerce of Huntsville/Madison County.
"I haven't heard much about that," Shelby told The Huntsville Times editorial board when asked about another round of base consolidations. "I don't see any need for a BRAC right now." Shelby confirmed that BRACs typically begin in Congress. As the sixth-senior Republican senator in Washington, he said, "I would hear it."
