Proration predicted this year, layoffs next

Proration is probable for at least one of two state budgets for the remainder of the year, and state layoffs are probable next year due to the economy’s continued effect on Alabama, Finance Director David Perry said Tuesday.

“We have had most agencies tell us what they would cut,” Perry said. “We don’t have a choice but to cut. In many cases it will be severe.”
