New poll shows Tim James leading GOP field

Republican gubernatorial candidate Tim James has surged ahead of the field in the GOP primary, with rivals Roy Moore and Bradley Byrne in a virtual tie for second place, according to recent polling conducted by the James campaign and obtained by the Press-Register.

The statewide poll, conducted Monday and Tuesday by Alexandria, Va.-based Ayres McHenry & Associates Inc., showed James leading with 26 percent of the vote, compared to 21 percent for Moore and 20 percent for Byrne. Robert Bentley held 7 percent while 24 percent were undecided.
