U.S. Rep. Robert Aderholt said he has been told by officials with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement that they will delay their decision to abandon operations in Etowah County until next year. The delay means about 350 detainees will not be moved from the Etowah County Detention Center Saturday, postponing the loss of about 49 jobs until after the holidays.
Aderholt, R-Haleyville, met Wednesday in Washington, D.C., with Sheriff Todd Entrekin, Chief of Corrections Scott Hassell, Etowah County Chief Executive Officer Patrick Simms and Etowah County Commissioner Tim Choate, who left Tuesday night for Washington, D.C.
