The Dothan Eagle is reporting that State Sen. Harri Anne Smith may run as an Independent after the Republican party disqualified her for endorsing Democrat Bobby Bright for Congress.
“I have given it some thought. Right now, I am trying to concentrate on this legislative session. We have a lot of critical issues to discuss,” Smith said. Smith has until June 1 to supply the necessary signatures. Those signing petitions supporting Smith to run must also include street address, precinct/voting place, date of birth and city of residence. The Alabama Secretary of State’s office must then verify each signature. Once 671 signatures have been verified, Smith’s name will appear on the November ballot as an independent candidate.
