Democrats are trying today to block a vote in the Alabama Senate on the bill that would prohibit groups like the Alabama Education Association from collecting dues by payroll deductions from the paychecks of public employees.

Republicans say they have the numbers to cut off a filibuster and eventually pass the bill.
