Electronic bingo halls in the Bessemer division of Jefferson County started reopening Monday after a county judge blocked raids by the Governor's Task Force on Illegal Gambling.
After a 40-minute hearing Monday morning in Bessemer, Jefferson County Circuit Judge Eugene Verin issued an injunction to keep the task force from raiding bingo halls in the Bessemer Cutoff until the Alabama Supreme Court determines who has command of the governor's task force.
These bingo halls shut down on Friday after raids had been threatened by Mobile County District Attorney John Tyson Jr. This should clear the way for these bingo halls to operate Alabama Supreme Court determines who has command of the governor's task force.
