A woman was beaten and choked Wednesday evening by her ex-boyfriend, Anniston police said this morning.

The 28-year-old victim went to her ex-boyfriend’s home on the 1600 block of Christine Avenue Wednesday around 6 p.m., according to a police report. Anniston police Capt. Allen George said the woman went to the home to retrieve some of her property. The suspect yelled at her while she was putting the items in the car, George said.

Then the man punched her, bit her, grabbed her by the hair and dragged her into the home, the captain said.

The woman told police her ex-boyfriend continued to hit her and choked her until she almost lost consciousness, George said.

George said the suspect fled the scene by the time police arrived. The woman suffered scratches and bruises on her shoulders, arms, face and neck. She also suffered cuts on her lips, a mark on her throat and a welt on her forehead. An officer at the scene advised the victim to seek medical treatment, George said, but he was uncertain today if she received care.

A suspect could face charges of felony domestic violence by strangulation.
