I question the editorial process by which The Star’s editorial board came to supporting a no vote on Amendment 7 in the November election.
The secret ballot was the biggest contributor to unionization. Without it (the unions demanded and got it), unions couldn’t organize as effectively. Your cavalier remark was don’t get involved in union business. Until the vote is taken, it’s not union business.
Opening up the vote allows the union to become that very thing — the reason for the secret vote. With the new ability to call for the election every 10 days, it’s easy to see how the intimidation would happen. The union would know who to pressure with each successive open vote.
