The Gen. Cleburne chapter decorated for “Historical Evening” at the convention with help from Admiral Semmes chapter 57 of Auburn and Russell County chapter 2114 of Phenix City. “Stars Fell on Alabama” was the theme.
Awards received by the Gen. Cleburne chapter included first place chapter scrapbook, first place (tie) for most meritorious service medals bestowed, first place in number of inches in UDC Magazine, first place in number of photos in UDC Magazine, first place in publicity submitted to division pressbook, first place in items submitted to division scrapbook, first place in benevolent contributions reported and certificate of merit for patriotic activities. The chapter was also recognized for donating the most money to the division flag fund and received several awards for its monetary support.
Among chapters with 50 or more members, the chapter received awards for most new members, youngest new member, greatest amount of insignia purchased, most supplementals and most World War II crosses bestowed.
Members who received individual honors included Alice Duckett, best book review about the South; Judy Rowell, honorable me Sarah-Anne Swaanntion book review; Shelia Gaddy, best essay award; and Gloria Griggs, two best essay awards.
The chapter was proud to be a major contributor in support of the division president’s projects to fund conservation of the 30th Alabama Flag and the 20th Alabama Flag during the past two years.
