There may not be a better location for Piedmont’s newest restaurant, Tweeners Café.

Just across from the high school, the café sits along the bypass just begging for customers, but there’s really no need to beg.

The food stands for itself, explained Marion Johnson, who along with her two cousins, Sheri and Teri will run the restaurant.

“People here are friendly. Good food. A Clean store and good prices,” Marion said. “People are going to come.”

Fridays they’ll serve up catfish, and the menu is dotted with dishes that some folks would say “Is just good eating.”

From chili dogs to onion rings and fried pickles, Tweeners serves everything fresh, Marion said.

“Everything I make is homemade,” She said. “I’m cooking like my grandmama taught me.”

Plate lunches will vary, with some days offering up meatloaf, pinto beans, cole slaw, cornbread and pineapple pudding.

Tweeners had operated in Jacksonville, but changes in the way Jacksonville State University paid for the Marching Southerners’ meals meant the students had to eat on campus, and that hurt business, said Teri Johnson.

But a bump in the road won’t slow them a bit, Teri explained. They’ve got deep roots in the community

Teri and her sister have been in business since 1986, and their grandfather opened the first hamburger restaurant in the county, called the Dixie Dip, in 1952, Teri said.

Tweeners will be open from 9 a.m.-9 p.m. seven days a week.
