The Tuscaloosa News reports on a young man who saved his father's life on a Sunday afternoon.
“We were just sitting there, laughing and talking about the week,” Annie Howell said. “Then, John began to gag and cough. His eyes filled up with water. Joshua didn't say a word, he came up from behind him and did the Heimlich maneuver. I thought he was going to die before my eyes.”
Annie Howell didn't realize that her son knew how to perform the maneuver to unblock obstructed airways. Joshua, a student at Hillcrest High School, told her that he had learned it from a friend while goofing around at the youth activity center at their church one day.
