Re “Vandals trash Alexandria High” (News article, July 5):

Any kind of vandalism is negative and not the way institutions of learning choose to make news. As was reported, thousands of dollars of damage was done by the intruders. However, I would like to comment on the positive.

I applaud the work of the Calhoun County sheriff’s department, the detectives, school resource officers and the safety and security director for Calhoun County Schools. Through their diligent work, they were able to apprehend suspects in less than 24 hours. The second group I applaud are the workers of the Calhoun County Maintenance Department.

In the middle of a holiday week they were at the school working to repair as much damage as they could in as short a time as possible. Thank you to both groups who seldom get an acknowledgement of their hard work.
