Three churches came together to give away more than 130 backpacks to children who needed them on Sunday, Aug. 1, the day before the first day of school.

More than 100 of those backpacks were filled with school supplies. Those children also received toothpaste and dental-care information from Sarrell Dental Center. We packed the backpacks and hosted the event at Fairview Heights Northside Baptist Church. Mountain View Church provided the backpacks. Grace Episcopal Church provided many of the school supplies, while members of their youth group came to the event to help out with activities.

It was truly wonderful to see such an amazing event come together, especially as it demonstrated how God’s people can come together to serve our community despite what others may perceive as great differences. Thanks to Sarrell Dental Center, Mountain View Church, Grace Episcopal Church and all the families who came out to help make this event at FHNBC such a blessing.
