Re “Religion Roundtable: How would you respond to Benjamin Franklin, who said, “The way to see by faith is to shut the eye of reason”? (Faith section, Oct. 5):

I was impressed by the responses of Muhammad Haq and Chris Thomas to the Ben Franklin quote in the Saturday Faith section. Indeed, reason is not in opposition to faith. The writings of John Wesley indicate that we are to consider life’s situations through the lens of Scripture and to also apply time-proven tradition, experience and reason.

In a culture where more folks seem to be allowing others to form their opinions for them, people of faith should remember that God gave us brains and expects us to use them.
