Denzel Thomas Hicks, 17, and Colby Jacob Snider, 18, both of Oxford, were charged Wednesday with two counts of robbery. Hicks was already in jail, charged with attempted murder last month after allegedly shooting Joseph Grizzard, 17, three times at Coldwater Creek Park in Oxford.
Hicks and Snider are alleged to have lured two Oxford teenagers to a Motel 6 on Grace Street in Oxford the night of April 20 under the pretense a party was taking place, according to police reports.
Oxford police Lt. L.G. Owens said that at the hotel room, Hicks handed Snider a gun and pointed the weapon at the victims and told them to empty their pockets. Hicks and Snider stole $35, a hat and the victims’ mobile phones. Owens said the phones were returned to them after they left the hotel room.
The incident went unreported until April 23, the day Joseph Grizzard was shot at Coldwater Creek, according to police reports. One of the robbery victims was related to Grizzard and told his mother that Hicks had robbed him four days earlier, Owens said.
Oxford police believe the gun used in the robbery was the same one used in the shooting at Coldwater Creek, but the weapon has not been recovered.
Hicks and Snider are being held at the Calhoun County Jail on two $50,000 bonds each. Hicks has an additional $100,000 bond from the attempted murder charges.
