The Birmingham News reports that Shelby County Voting Rights Act of 1965.

Shelby County will challenge federal law that requires some states, mostly in the South, to get approval from the U.S. Justice Department when governments make election-related changes, no matter how small, which is how the county sees the provision.

Backed by a Washington D.C.-based group called The Project on Fair Representation, on a pro-bono basis, the county will challenge Section 4(b) and Section 5 of the Voting Rights Act of 1965.
