The Montgomery Advertiser reports on school systems that are trying to save money on unilities to keep from having to cut jobs.
Elmore County Public Schools this school year reached the one-year mark since it began its energy conservation program, said Judy Caton, spokeswoman for the school system. The school system has achieved more than $649,493 in savings through a 27.5 percent reduction in energy use in the initial 12-month period that began Feb. 1, 2009, and ended Jan. 31.
Overall, Elmore County school officials are projecting that the district's energy conservation program will save the school system $5.9 million through the first 10 years.
