Re “Rogers owes us an explanation” (Speak Out, June 21):

Letter writer Ron Caldwell of Jacksonville criticized Rep. Mike Rogers’s stance on Medicare. He said Rogers said, “We can stop stuff now,” allegedly referring to all Medicare by way of proposed reforms.

What Rogers wants to stop is the abuse of Medicare, not the care for Caldwell’s father, which is legitimate. I wonder if Caldwell is aware of the folks who go to the emergency room for heart pains after holiday meals where they stuffed themselves silly? The hospital is obliged to do heart exams to prevent lawsuits in spite of repeated historical evidence of mere indigestion.

Or what about those who come to the emergency room for infections of their body piercings? They talk on their iPhones while nurses treat their $300 jewelry. These treatments are free to them. We are paying the way for some abusers of the system for their indulgence and negligence in following any ethical behavior with regard to the human race and our great nation. The abuse is what Rep. Rogers wants to stop.
