The Anniston City Council met Tuesday long enough to hear the complaints of an Anniston resident and then to adjourn until next Tuesday.

The council’s twice-monthly meeting was scheduled for last Tuesday, but was cut short because of the icy condition of the streets.

The members met briefly then, and adjourned until Tuesday. However, Councilman John Spain and Mayor Gene Robinson were unable to attend this week’s meeting. So the other members met for about 10 minutes and adjourned without discussing anything on the agenda.

The members did give those who came to the meeting the opportunity to speak. George Levert, an Anniston resident, took a moment to chide councilmen for overspending their travel budgets.

“If you make a budget, it should be lived with,” Levert said. “If somebody – my opinion and everybody’s got one – if you go over your budget, you should have to pay for it. I would expect to if it were me.”

The council thanked Levert for his comments and then adjourned.

The council will meet next Tuesday for its informal session at 2 p.m. The formal meeting is scheduled for 3 p.m.
