I became acquainted with Tea Party leaders because of my military background, and theirs, but it was quickly apparent that these fellows, even heroes, were off on a dead-end political tangent. At Faulkner Community College we had a Constitutional Day, a federal requirement, and the Tea Party thought to dominate the program. We foiled them by inviting former Supreme Court Justice Janie Shores to represent the Democratic Party views. After the Tea Party rants about amendments for the Constitution (usual ignorant babble), the wonderful Judge Shores grandly pierced the Tea Party rants with words as precise as a rapier.
It was like your editorials that connect the history and events with outcomes of wrong and right decisions. I agree with you, these political upheavals repeat in predictably, and just as predictably, will fall with reality. Unfortunately, it’s an expensive way to learn.
