Nearly 40 years ago, as a young reporter fresh out of journalism school, I had the pleasure of getting to know Ken Elkins and the opportunity to watch his genius at work through the lens of a 35 mm camera. Some of my most memorable — and fun — moments as a Star reporter were taking off with Ken in his red Volkswagen and riding through the countryside in search of a story. You always found a story when you were riding shotgun with Ken.
He was an artist, a pro’s pro and a wonderful guy with a great sense of humor. He will be missed … and long remembered.
