Prep basketball roundup: White Plains boys, girls sweep to tourney titles

White Plains High’s boys basketball team won the Daniel Davenport Memorial Tournament on Friday by sweeping two games.

White Plains, also the tournament host, beat Faith Christian 62-33 in the Friday morning’s semifinals after leading 33-9 at halftime. Hunter Wheeler led the Wildcats with 12 points, while Dylan Randall and Dillon Greenwood each had 10 points.

For Faith Christian, Logan Williamson had 14 points.

In the finals, White Plains beat Cleburne County 65-56. Cleburne County led 47-45 after three quarters before Randall scored seven straight points to start the fourth quarter. White Plains never trailed again.

Randall finished with 23 points, while Greenwood added 13. Tyler Hardcastle had 10.

For Cleburne County, Max Pritchard had 28 points.

White Plains (3-1) will play again Monday at Ranburne.

Pleasant Valley 61, Faith Christian 52: Also in the Daniel Davenport tournament, Hunter Carr scored 19 points to pace Pleasant Valley (1-5).

Trey Phillips added 18 points and 10 rebounds, while Dustin Andrews had 11 points and 11 rebounds. Lucas Ford passed out six assists.

For Faith Christian, Logan Williamson had 22 points.

Alexandria 78, Hillcrest-Memphis 63: In a regular-season game, Alexandria led 43-26 and kept up the pace to score a win.

Gabe Marchal had 17 points to pace Alexandria, while Dakota Kelley added 12. C.J. Swink had 11 points and 11 rebounds, and Luke Tucker contributed 11 points.

Chris Davis’ 24 points paced Hillcrest.

Alexandria will play Tuesday at home against Wellborn.

Girls

White Plains swept two games Friday to win the Faith Christian girls basketball tournament.

The Wildcats beat Faith Christian 44-26 in the opener, then defeated Cleburne County 47-29 in the finals.

Against Faith, Taylor Snellgrove had 18 points and four steals. Sophie Taylor had 10 points, three steals and five rebounds, and Shelby Wood had nine points and five rebounds.

Jasmine Gross had 13 points to pace Faith Christian.

In the finals, Taylor had 14 points and two assists for White Plains in the wind, and Amber Greenwood added 12 points, six assists, five rebounds and three steals. Carly Wood scored 10 points and pulled down nine rebounds, and Snellgrove had eight points and four steals.

White Plains (3-1) is slated to play Monday at Ranburne.

Jacksonville 53, Fyffe 45: Angel Kidd had 19 points for Jacksonville. Virginia Poe pitched in 15, and Dasia Kirksey contributed 14.

The Golden Eagles (4-2) are scheduled to play at Oneonta on Tuesday.
