Prep basketball roundup: Bolton has 16 as Anniston girls win season opener

Alabama signee Quanetria Bolton had 16 points and eight rebounds for Anniston High's girls in their season-opening win at Winterboro 62-34.

Raven Cooley added eight points and rebounds, while Kiyana Bullock contributed eight points and 13 rebounds.

Taliyah Knox had seven points and four rebounds, and Rakeema Najiy pitched in six points and 11 rebounds.

Albertville 38, Oxford 30: Maegan McCartney and Casmin Copeland each had eight points for Oxford, while Lexie Higgins managed seven.

For Albertville, Madeline Monroe had 14 points.

Oxford (1-2) plays its first home game Friday against Westbrook Christian.

White Plains 71, Faith Christian 42: Taylor Snellgrove had 20 points, five assists, five rebounds and three steals to pace White Plains in its season opener.

Sophie Taylor added 16 points, four rebounds, five steals and three assists, and Amber Greenwood had 11 points, seven steals, six rebounds and three assists. Shelby Wood had 11 points, 10 steals, five assists and five rebounds.

White Plains plays again next week at Jacksonville.

Faith Christian was paced by Madison Stephens with 23 points and Jasmyne Groce had 12.

Weaver 25, Lincoln 23: Kiara Scott turned in Weaver's first double-double of the year with 10 points and 14 rebounds. Teammate Sequonda Brown added eight points and 16 rebounds.

Sierra Hardy had six points for Weaver (1-1), which plays in the Southside Thanksgiving tournament next week.

For Lincoln, Ty Truss had six points.

Gaylesville 64, Jacksonville Christian 47: Gaylesville rebounded from a 25-23 halftime deficit to rally past JCA.

Rachel Russaw had 15 points for the Thunder, while Sarah Crook added 13 points. Elizabeth Morales added seven points and eight rebounds.

JCA (1-1) will play Thursday at Cedar Bluff.

Boys

Anniston 78, Winterboro 29:
At Winterboro, four Anniston players scored in double figures as Anniston opened its season with an easy win.

The visiting Bulldogs led 49-13 at halftime. DeMarcus Thomas led Anniston with 19 points. Qua Frazier scored 17 points, Quintarious Croft 15 points and Quin Jackson 12 points for the winners. Croft, Frazier and Jackson each had eight rebounds.

Anniston hosts Talladega on Thursday.

Jacksonville Christian 48, Gaylesville 41: Jacksonville Christian scored all seven points of the overtime period and won at Gaylesville.

Daylon Brackett had 16 points and 11 rebounds for the Thunder (2-0), which was tied 41-41 at the end of regulation. Walker Messer had 11 points, and Will Parrish contributed 11 points and 18 rebounds. Dakota Crook pulled down 10 rebounds.

JCA will play at Cedar Bluff on Thursday.

White Plains 63, Faith Christian 56: Tyler Hardcastle sank nine 3-pointers on his way to 28 points in White Plains' win.

Dylan Randall added 24 points as he made all 10 of his free throws. He also passed out eight assists for White Plains (1-0), which will play at Jacksonville on Monday.

For Faith Christian (0-2), Logan Williamson had 14 points, while London Huie and Josiah McDaniel each had 10 points.
