Piedmont coach James Blanchard was out early working on the baseball field in an attempt to make the surface playable after moving the start of his team’s playoff game today to 6 p.m.

Heavy rain has delayed several local games to today. The games all were originally scheduled for Saturday, but Piedmont, as of this morning, is the only team to change a start time today.

In Class 4A, Alexandria, which travels to face Ardmore in Game 3, will play at 5 p.m. Class 2A Ranburne travels to Gadsden to face Westbrook Christian and will resume Game 2 at 4:30 with the third game following.

Strategy will come into play for each team, considering that Friday’s starting pitchers have had the required 72-hours rest and will be available to pitch today. However, pitchers can only throw 15 innings in a week.

With a trip to the state semifinals on the line, coaches have some important decisions to make.
